Trying to figure out which class is right for you?

We believe that no matter the class, style or teacher, your yoga practice is your own. All classes are open to students of any level of experience; however, some are more accessible for people newer to yoga than others. We’ve noted which classes are beginner friendly, but our teachers are ready to help you vary and modify any practice to meet your needs. All bodies are beautiful; all bodies are celebrated at Wild Rice Studio. Be gentle with yourself. Honor your practice. Remain authentic to your needs every time you step on the mat. If you have any questions, we’re here for you. Feel free to send us an email.

Hatha

Beginner friendly

Focuses on fundamental movement, aligning yourself and exploring the way your body moves. We focus on mobility and strength to bring you into flexibility. We practice variations, backbends, and inversions, but our teachers instruct with progressive sequences and descriptive verbal cues. Students can expect a slower paced class and to hold postures for 3-5 breaths. Hatha classes typically focus more on function and form of asana rather than flow. This class is heated between 80 and 85 degrees.

Hot 26

Beginner friendly

This series comes from the traditional Bikram class. It is also known as the Traditional Hot Yoga and works the body from the inside out. It is a fixed series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. This series will work 100% of the body, every muscle, joint and ligament. In addition to stimulating glands, nerves and organs by improving the circulation of oxygen throughout the body. This practice will calm your mind and strengthen your body, as well as relax and heal over time. It is a beginning series and is accessible to all. Don’t let the heat scare you! It will become your best friend. This class is heated between 100 and 104 degrees.

Gentle Flow

Gentle Flow Yoga is an overarching term, and each practice is different, but it encompasses yoga that’s safe for all levels, including beginners. The focus is on relaxation and ease.
It doesn’t tie judgment or competition to the practice, because there’s no buildup to more advanced or peak asanas. It provides a safe, effective, compassionate environment that’s welcoming to all. All experience levels are welcome.

Vinyasa

Combines alignment based principles to build strength and functional mobility before moving into a vinyasa style flow, linking breath with movement. Teachers sequence a variety of poses together and offer a more in depth explanation of safe transitions, strong postures, and modifications to fit your needs. This class is a bit more challenging than some of the slower practices like Hatha or Restorative. Some experience on the mat is helpful before heading to a vinyasa class, as we tend to move through transitions in the sequence quickly, but feel free to come try it out. Our teachers are happy to offer variations to suit any style of practice. Vinyasa classes are heated between 85 and 90 degrees.

Yin

Beginner friendly

Practices are best for deepening flexibility and balancing a strong and active lifestyle. We hold postures for 3-5 minutes each, so expect a slower paced class. Props are used to support as we allow our muscles and connective tissues to lengthen, but we call upon our strength to protect our joints and remain actively engaged in each posture.

Restorative

Beginner friendly

A practice that is all about slowing down and relieving stress and tension. During the long holds of restorative yoga, your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. Props, rather than your muscles, are used to support your body. Restorative classes are very mellow, making them a good complement to more active practices and an excellent antidote to stress. Clinical research into restorative yoga has found that it can support people experiencing depression, improve symptoms of anxiety, and ease pain.
